| Subject: Treatment of sore knees at home, and on the street. Wed Aug 19, 2009 9:27 am | |
| Although, when you're on the street and you're experiencing mild pains and sores on your knees, you really shouldn't be treating it just to further play Parkour, you should be using the extra time given so that you can go home and rest, some treatments for the street are as follows:
-Rest and avoid activities that aggravate the pain, especially weight bearing activities. Be sure to sit down for as long as needed.
-Keep your knee elevated as much as possible to bring any swelling down.
-(...If the pain is increasing it might be a good idea to either invest in a fast food soda, or an ice bag that can sometimes be bought at a local drugstore- the ice in the tall soda cup can act as an ice bag...) Apply ice. First, apply it every hour for up to 15 minutes. After the first day, apply it at least 4 times per day.
For more "Home Oriented" rememedies: They are as follows:
-Take acetaminophen for pain or ibuprofen for pain and swelling.
-Gently compress the knee by wearing an ace bandage or elastic sleeve. Either can be purchased at most pharmacies. This may reduce swelling and provide support.
-Sleep with a pillow underneath or between your knees.
Any combination (or all of them at once) can greatly increase your chances of getting back on the street faster, be sure to stock up on needed supplies if need be, for when you're out in the field.
