Alright, so. I have recently started training for the Petawawa ironman, a fifty kilometre races that involves carrying a 40 pound rucksack, portaging a canoe, paddling said canoe UP a river, and then more running.
This is possibly the most training I have ever done, I've been running 13 k a day this week excluding wednesday when we did a rather insane curcuit training session. Two of the runs were with a loaded ruck. It is absolutely kicking the crud out of me. However, I'm also really enjoying it so far, I think I have been missing the challenge of pushing myself outside my comfort level.
This got me to thinking about the physical conditioning aspect of Parkour.
I think alot of traceurs who are working hard to progress benefit from this same sort of mind set. Whenever I watch folks on youtube doing conditioning, they are always trying to do something RIDICULOUS.
So, I guess the point I'm trying to get across here is that if you aren't pushing yourself to and beyond your limits in physical conditioning (which involves sweat, heavy breathing and periodically achey muscles) chances are you aren't getting all of the psychological and physiological benefits from your training that you could be. Anyone who trains hard can tell you that it's like a drug. Once you are used to training hard, your day just isn't the same without it.
Food for thought.
